National Midwifery Institute offers open enrollment year-round; applicants may apply at any time. The enrollment process is self-paced and enrollment may be completed in a matter of days or months, depending on the applicant’s preference.

Enrollment at NMI

NMI admission and enrollment criteria are designed to admit only students who are reasonably capable of successfully completing and benefiting from the program. Prior to admission, NMI notifies each applicant regarding admission requirements, process and procedures, the nature of the training and education provided, and the program’s responsibilities and demands. NMI is committed to consistently and fairly applying its admissions requirements.

Prior to submitting an application applicants are encouraged to:

PLEASE NOTE: We are currently unable to accept applications from students or preceptors in some states. There are some states in which NMI students may not study due to requirements for educational institutions. Be sure to check our Permission to Operate page regarding what states these are. Moving into one of these states during study would prevent the student from continuing study while in that state.

The National Midwifery Institute is an equal opportunity employer and educational institution. NMI does not discriminate and does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or discipline against any individual or group on the basis of their actual, implied or perceived: race; color; national or ethnic origin or ancestry; religion or creed; sex, gender, gender identity or express, including transgender identity; sexual orientation; marital status; familial status; age; disability; genetic information; or any other protected category under federal, state, or local law.

Admission & Application Process

Step 1: Read the Application Guidelines

Prior to submitting your application, review our Application Guide to ensure you have everything you need, including all documentation for your prerequisites.

Step 2: Apply

Submit your application and payment along with all requested materials. The application process can be extensive, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to work through the online form. This process can be fast tracked if you have prepared your documentation in advance and submit all materials.

Step 3: Admissions Interview

Once the application has been fully reviewed, and transcripts, transfer credit or advanced placement documentation is on file, applicants will receive a link to schedule an Admissions Interview with an NMI Director.

If you are requesting transfer credit or advanced placement, this will be discussed in detail in your Admissions Interview and the credit or advanced placement offer will be reviewed here.

Step 4: Outcome

After your Admissions Interview, if the individual is recommended for enrollment, the Admissions Office will send an Offer of Enrollment stating acceptance into the program. Applicants who confirm their desire to enroll in NMI will complete an Enrollment Agreement and pay a $150 enrollment fee and the first month of tuition.

Step 5: Confirmation of Enrollment

You will receive a confirmation of your enrollment once the Enrollment Agreement is completed, and your enrollment fees are processed. Access to the Student Portal will be shared upon completion of this step.
