Black Maternal Health Conference and Training Institute

The BMHC24 theme, “Our Bodies STILL Belong to Us: Reproductive Justice NOW!” will highlight the widespread restrictions on abortion care access coupled with rising cases of criminalization due to pregnancy loss which continues to widen the gaps of adverse maternal and birth outcomes in the U.S. Many of the states with the most restrictive abortion bans have the worst maternal and child health outcomes and the least supportive social welfare and family support programs, particularly for Black women and birthing people. The time is NOW to demand for comprehensive public and private insurance coverage for maternal, sexual, and reproductive health care; improving access to care across geographies and birth settings; issuing guidance to health care providers, institutions, insurance companies, and related entities on providing equitable, high-quality, patient-centered care; and funding research and programs that center and utilize scholarship of Black women and birthing people.

Transforming White Privilege On The Path To Racial Equity in Maternity Care

This workshop is about community. It is about peer support. It is about holding space for white midwives to sit in discomfort, to be vulnerable, to grow and heal together. Being with midwives in circle is amazing –– we are natural activists, and are able to open our hearts. TWP is not a "class" as in that we have lectures; rather, it is an opportunity for deep self-reflection and inner work. It is deeply personal, therapeutic, soul-work that is breaking open, and we do it together. For more on the history of our workshop, please see this Google Doc. If it has been on your mind/heart to do some inner work around your Whiteness in a supportive group context, please reach out to us at transformingprivilege@gmail.com. We'd love for you to join one of our upcoming 2024 cohorts. Cohort 2: 4/5/24 - 5/3/24, 5 zoom sessions on Fridays, 10-12:30 PST

Blog content posted exclusively on Tumblr, appealing to our Black Velours and focused on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Monthly Happy Hours with the Black Velvet Collective are always a breath of fresh air. Sometimes we play games on Kahoot!, other times we just have a ki about the goings on of the day. Above all else, we relax and enjoy each other’s company as we build our trust with each other. Join the collective!
